The Assasination Attempt

Lights. Camera. Action. Boom. One shot, that's all it takes to take a life, but mine? One minute I'm looking at the lights of cameras and the press secretary then I hear a "Boom! Boom!" people screaming, chaos all around me, and pain, so much pain surging through my body. Everything became fuzzy, and it all seemed so distant and unreal. All that I could actually tell that was real was the pain. My gaurds were rushing towards me as people scream away. Other people were up in my face with cameras. The gaurds rushed me to the limousine. I coughed, sperting blood onto my hand. Soon I realized that I was in an E.R. room. I then laughed to the doctors and said "I hope you all are republicans." "today, Mr.President,we're all republicans," they responded. Everything then started becoming fuzzy and before I knew it, I blacked out.
'beep, beep, beep.' I slowely opened my eyes. Around me was white walls, and flowers, lots and lots of flowers. I then heard the door open. I looked to see Nancy, tears flowing down her soft cheeks. "honey, I forgot to duck," I laughed. She then ran beside my bed, her whimpering eckoing through the small room. Then a nurse came in and said "you're a lucky one Reagan . That bullet just missed an inch from your heart." I then realized how lucky I really was. God must have spared my life, and so I can do greater things.

The Cold War

The Cold War started right after World War II ended, between the Truman doctrine in 1947 and the Korean War in 1953. It was still going on through most of twentieth century. The Cold War continued through the 1960s and 70s. Even though a lot was going on during this time period, like the assassination of John F. Kennedy, the Civil Rights Movement, and The Vietnam War antiwar Movement, the United States maintained its Cold War engagement with the The Soviet Union.

From 1979- 1985, was where a man named Mikhail Gorbachev who rose to power as a Soviet leader. This part of The Cold War was also know as the "Second Cold War" because of the rising tensions between the U.S. and the Soviet. Also around this time the Military was having problems like the Soviet War in Afghanistan, the Gulf of Sidra incident, and the U.S. invasion of Grenada.

I believed that if I tried to persuade the Soviets to have more Democracy and freedom of speech, just like the United States of America, then this might end Communism. During the Cold War there were nuclear bombs being made, and at the end of the Cold War, Mr. Gorbachev and I signed a treaty banning medium range nuclear weapons.

I helped escalate but also helped end the Cold War. I encouraged the Soviet Union to produce more oil. Oil became the main source of the Soviet export revenues. This helped improve the Soviet economy. It did not solve all their problems but things did get better.

Alzheimers Disease

'I didn't understand...I was trying to find the words but...now I can't think of anything to say. What was I talking about? Who am I talking to? Where am I? I see the persons lips moving but I don't understand what they're saying...' "Ronald!" Jane responded. "Huh?" "Are you okay Ronald?" Jane asked. I then realized what was around me. The constant beating that showed the rate of my heart. The distant speaking of people outside the room. And Nancy. "Yah...I just spaced out for awhile." I responded. "Are you sure Ronnie? Your heart beat started speeding up. I could get the nurse for you..." I then grabbed her wrist, stopping her. "Please don't leave me, not now," I said. Nancy then nodded her head and sat back down. I could just see it in her eyes. The pain I'm causing her. I don't care about my life, all I care about is making her feel like she isn't hopeless. The life we lived. I'm already 83 years old and now it's soon to end. I was an actor...the governor of California...even President of the United States. But it was nothing of a life until Nancy came into mine. I am happy to say that I am content with my life."Nancy," I said. "Yes, Ronnie?" She responded. "I love you." "I love you to, Ronnie."
